The founding team is intentionally small while the Foundation incorporates. First hires open with the founding capital campaign. See Careers for the shape of the roles we expect to run first.
How we hire
Paid at market, transparent by design.
Foundation roles are paid at market salaries. Executive compensation is set by an independent committee of the board, and it becomes public every year via Form 990. That is a feature. Public comp is a forcing function for reasonable pay, and a signal to the people we are trying to recruit that we are not a vow-of-poverty operation.
Subsidiary roles, on the engineering and commercial side, get market salary plus a long-term incentive plan tied to the subsidiary’s performance. Real upside, capped, predictable. The Mozilla Corporation pattern. We do not ask anyone to fund our mission with their rent.
Where a role works across both entities, the employment is split cleanly between the two, documented under the transfer-pricing policies the Foundation’s counsel has advised.
